Finding Benefits From Your Struggles


Experiencing trauma and adversity is painful. Interestingly, however, there can also be a bright side to our struggles in life. Many people who experience stressful life events often also report positive life changes that result from these events.  For example, some people report a greater appreciation for loved ones, an enhanced sense of purpose, or a newfound sense of appreciation for one's resiliency. Others feel that their relationships are stronger.  Finding the good that emerges from our struggles is called benefit finding. It's a way of becoming more grateful and resilient. In this exercise, you will practice benefit finding.
